Bill Summary
AN ACT to amend the retirement and social security law, in relation to certain disabilities of university police officers appointed by the state university of New York
AI Summary
This bill amends the Retirement and Social Security Law to include State University of New York (SUNY) police officers within the definition of "firefighter" and "police officer" for the purposes of a presumption regarding impairment caused by heart disease. This change would extend a "heart bill" performance of duty disability provision to SUNY police officers who are members of the New York State and Local Police and Fire Retirement System. The bill is expected to have a negligible fiscal impact, as it is anticipated that few additional performance of duty disability retirements will be granted as a result of this change.
