Bill Summary
AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to the New York State district attorney and indigent legal services attorney loan forgiveness program
AI Summary
This bill expands the eligibility period for indigent legal service attorneys to receive certain loan forgiveness from 6 years to 7 years. Specifically, it amends the education law to change the "eligible period" for the New York State District Attorney and Indigent Legal Services Attorney Loan Forgiveness Program from the 6-year period after completion of the third year to the 7-year period after completion of the second year of employment as an eligible attorney. The bill also ensures that the current status and awards of attorneys currently participating in the program are not diminished.
