This bill adds a new section to Idaho's existing law to provide for the protection of certain monuments and memorials. Specifically, it prohibits the relocation, removal, disturbance, or alteration of historical monuments or memorials erected on public property prior to July 1, 2021, without the approval of the state legislature. It also prohibits the renaming or rededication of public areas, such as schools, streets, or parks, that were named in memory of or for historic figures or events prior to July 1, 2021, without legislative approval. The bill allows for the removal, relocation, or alteration of monuments, memorials, or nameplates only as necessary to accommodate construction, repair, or improvements, and requires any permanently removed monument or memorial to be relocated to a location of similar prominence.
