This bill requires the New Mexico Department of Transportation to designate a "school bus route improvement coordinator" to work with counties and public schools to ensure that school bus routes are paved and safe for transporting students. The bill establishes a process for annually surveying and ranking school bus routes in need of improvement, and requires that at least 20% of the lowest-ranked routes be paved and improved each year using reclaimed and environmentally-friendly materials.
