Bill Summary

AN ACT To amend Code Section 26-4-82 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to duties requiring professional judgment and responsibilities of a licensed pharmacist, so as to increase the pharmacist to pharmacy technician ratio for providing direct supervision at any time; to provide certain requirements; to provide for related matters; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.

AI Summary

This bill amends the Georgia law on the duties and responsibilities of licensed pharmacists to increase the pharmacist to pharmacy technician ratio for providing direct supervision from 1 pharmacist to 3 technicians, to 1 pharmacist to 4 technicians. The bill also specifies that if a pharmacist is supervising 4 technicians, at least 2 of the technicians must be certified, and if supervising 3 technicians, at least 1 must be certified. No certification is required for pharmacists supervising 1 or 2 technicians. The bill allows for an application to increase the ratio further for hospital pharmacies.
