This bill requires the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision to create a family reunion program. The program will provide eligible inmates and their families the opportunity to meet for an extended period of time in a residential setting. Eligible inmates must have a good disciplinary record and comply with department requirements. Eligible family members include spouses, children, parents, grandparents, siblings, and grandchildren, among others. Inmates who pose a current danger to themselves or others may be denied participation, but can regain eligibility once the danger has passed. The program must be available at every maximum-security state correctional facility and at medium-security facilities with a large inmate population.
