This bill provides paid family and medical leave for state employees and teachers in Tennessee. It allows eligible employees and teachers who have worked for at least one year and 1,250 hours in the past 12 months to take up to 12 weeks of paid leave for events such as the birth or adoption of a child, caring for a family member with a serious health condition, or the employee's own serious health condition. The leave runs concurrently with leave under the federal Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and does not count against the employee's other leave balances. The bill requires the state's Department of Human Resources and the State Board of Education to promulgate rules to implement the new paid leave program.
