This bill amends the Tennessee Code Annotated to require that doula services, which provide continuous emotional and physical support throughout labor and birth, as well as during the prenatal and postpartum periods, be provided to recipients of TennCare, the state's Medicaid program. The doula services must be performed by a person who has received certain certifications, such as from the International Childbirth Education Association or the Doulas of North America. The bill specifically requires that doula services be provided to recipients determined to be "medically needy" under TennCare. The bill takes effect on July 1, 2021.
