This bill increases the penalties for criminal trespass in New Mexico. It amends existing law to impose a definite term of imprisonment of less than one year and/or a fine of up to $2,500 for those convicted of criminal trespass, in addition to potential license revocation for hunting or fishing violations. The bill also increases the penalty for knowingly removing, tampering with, or destroying a "no trespass" sign. Additionally, it doubles the civil damages that can be recovered from someone who enters private property without permission and damages the property.
