This bill establishes the "Ambulance Service Assistance Fund" within the state treasury, to be administered by the commission. The fund consists of appropriations, investment income, and other money allocated to it, and can be used to make competitive grants to local public ambulance service providers to assist in the purchase or refurbishment of ambulances, medical equipment, and the required training and certification of ambulance drivers and emergency medical staff. The bill requires the commission to establish procedures and rules for administering the fund, including factors for deciding on the grants. It also appropriates $9 million from the general fund to the Ambulance Service Assistance Fund for expenditure in fiscal year 2022 and subsequent years.
