This bill extends the operation of existing provisions that establish a disability retirement presumption for public employees in certain job classifications, such as firefighters, public safety officers, and healthcare workers, who test positive for COVID-19. The bill extends the presumption from January 1, 2023, to January 1, 2024, meaning that if these employees retire for disability due to a COVID-19-related illness, it will be presumed that the disability arose out of or in the course of their employment, unless rebutted.
