This Joint Resolution designates the last week of April each year as "Reentry Week" to highlight the difficulties faced by individuals returning to their communities after being incarcerated, and to encourage organizations, including state agencies, to offer support. The resolution acknowledges that most incarcerated individuals will eventually be released and face significant hurdles such as finding employment, housing, and healthcare, which can contribute to a return to criminal activity, known as recidivism. It also recognizes the efforts of various commissions, like the New Jersey Reentry Services Commission (RSC) and the Commission on Reentry Services for Women (CRSW), along with local councils and community groups, in identifying and addressing these reentry challenges. The Governor is also empowered to issue proclamations encouraging public officials and citizens to observe Reentry Week with suitable activities and programs.
