This Concurrent Resolution requests the University of Hawaii to collaborate with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), a federal agency focused on oceans and atmosphere, and the Department of Education to establish a Coral Reef Advisory Team composed of young people. The purpose of this youth team is to involve students in learning about the science and preservation of coral reefs, which are vital ecosystems that support marine life, protect coastlines, and are particularly important to Hawaii, accounting for most of the coral reefs in the United States. The resolution also suggests the University of Hawaii consider using specific educational materials related to coral reefs, such as those from the Partnerships for Reform through Investigative Science and Math Program, to further this educational initiative.
