This bill, known as Sami's Law, requires the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to conduct a study and submit a report to Congress every two years on the incidence of fatal and non-fatal physical and sexual assaults against transportation network company (TNC) drivers, drivers of other for-hire vehicles, and their passengers. The study will also examine the nature and specifics of any background checks conducted on prospective TNC and other for-hire vehicle drivers, as well as the safety steps taken by these companies to ensure rider and driver safety. The term "sexual assault" is defined in the bill to include any non-consensual sexual act proscribed by federal, tribal, or state law, including when the victim lacks the capacity to consent.
