This bill provides a motor vehicle registration fee exemption for low-income disabled persons in New Mexico. To be eligible, the disabled person must be a bona fide resident of New Mexico and have an annual modified gross income of $15,000 or less. The bill defines a "disabled person" as someone who has lost the permanent and total use of both hands, both arms, both feet, both legs, both eyes, or any combination of two thereof, or has sustained a brain injury that causes a permanent impairment of 30% or more. The person claiming the exemption must sign an affidavit attesting to their eligibility and provide proof of their income. The effective date of this bill is July 1, 2021.
