This bill amends the graduation requirements in New Mexico to include a new requirement of one-half unit of financial literacy for students entering the 9th grade in the 2022-2023 school year and subsequent school years. The financial literacy course must meet mathematics academic content and performance standards and cover topics such as budgets, checking and savings accounts, credit, interest, and the costs of borrowing. The bill also makes some other changes to the existing graduation requirements, such as increasing the total number of required mathematics units to four and one-half units.
