This bill appropriates $50,000 from the general fund to the Board of Regents of New Mexico State University for the Department of Agricultural Economics and Agricultural Business to conduct a study on the economic and fiscal impacts of eliminating or reducing state income tax on military retirement income. The study will examine the retirement location preferences of military retirees, summarize existing research, gather survey and interview data from various stakeholders, and analyze the potential positive and negative economic effects as well as the impact on state and local finances.
