This bill expands the definition of "employer" in the New Mexico Human Rights Act to include "joint employers." A joint employer is defined as one who shares control of an employee with another employer, or acts directly or indirectly in the interest of another employer in relation to the employee. This change broadens the entities that can be held liable for unlawful discriminatory practices under the Act, providing additional legal protections for employees who may be jointly employed by multiple entities.
