This bill, the Korematsu-Takai Civil Liberties Protection Act of 2021, aims to prohibit the imprisonment or detention of individuals based solely on their race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, or any other characteristic the Attorney General deems as protected. It amends Section 4001 of Title 18 of the United States Code to explicitly forbid such detentions and defines "protected characteristic" to include the listed categories, with the Attorney General unable to remove any of them from the definition.
