This bill enacts the Healthy Food Service Guidelines for New York Act of 2021, which directs the Department of Health to develop state food standards for foods purchased, served, sold, and promoted by state agencies, programs, and institutions and on state property. The state food guidelines must be consistent with or exceed the federal Dietary Guidelines for Americans and include recommendations for using sustainably and locally grown New York state food products. The guidelines will apply to various state facilities and programs, and state agencies must make purchases and contracts in accordance with the guidelines. The Department of Health is also required to develop a plan for providing technical and supervisory assistance to state agencies implementing the guidelines.
