This bill requires health benefit plans in Texas to cover the full cost of a cranial remolding orthosis (a custom-fitted medical device applied to the head to correct a deformity, improve function, or relieve symptoms of a structural cranial disease) for children diagnosed with craniostenosis or certain types of plagiocephaly or brachycephaly. The coverage must be at least as favorable as coverage for other orthotics under the plan, with the same dollar limits, deductibles, and coinsurance. The bill applies to a wide range of health benefit plans, including individual, group, and government-sponsored plans, and takes effect for plans delivered, issued, or renewed on or after January 1, 2022.
