This bill, titled the "Safe RIDE Act of 2021" or the "Safe Recall Information Distributed Equitably Act of 2021," requires the Comptroller General of the United States to conduct a study on motor vehicle recalls. Specifically, the study will determine the number of passenger vehicles in each state that are used for taxi or ride-sharing purposes and have open recalls, as well as the reasons why vehicle owners do not complete the required recall repairs. Additionally, the bill directs the Administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to study ways to more effectively reach vehicle owners with recall notices, make the notices easier for consumers to understand, and incentivize owners to complete the necessary recall repairs. The bill also clarifies that it does not restrict the authority of the Secretary or override any existing recall-related requirements.
