This bill allows for certain students to participate in interscholastic athletics programs and extracurricular activities at public high schools, even if their own school does not offer those programs. Specifically, it permits public high school students to participate in sports at the public high school closest to their school that has a program in that sport, and allows private school or home school students to participate in sports at the base public high school for their address, or the closest public high school that offers the sport. The bill also requires local boards of education to establish reasonable fees for such participation by students not enrolled at the high school. The provisions of this bill apply starting in the 2021-2022 school year.
