This bill, the Mothers and Offspring Mortality and Morbidity Awareness Act (MOM-MA's Act), aims to improve federal efforts to prevent maternal mortality. It provides for technical assistance to states to report maternal mortality data, best practices for state maternal mortality review committees and hospitals, funding for the Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health program to implement maternal safety bundles, and funding for state-based perinatal quality collaboratives. The bill also expands Medicaid and CHIP coverage for pregnant and postpartum women, including requiring coverage of oral health services, and extends the postpartum coverage period from 60 days to 1 year. Additionally, the bill establishes regional centers of excellence to address implicit bias and cultural competency in patient-provider interactions, and increases excise taxes on various tobacco products to discourage their use and address their impact on maternal health.
