This bill, the Strengthening Mental Health Supports for BIPOC Communities Act, aims to amend the Public Health Service Act to reduce health disparities experienced by individuals from historically racial and ethnic minority groups under state plans for the community mental health services block grant program. Specifically, it requires states to report on the provision and outcomes of mental health services for adults with serious mental illness and children with serious emotional disturbance who are members of historically racial and ethnic minority groups. The bill also requires states to conduct outreach to, and hire, mental health providers from diverse disciplines who are members of these minority groups, as well as provide training on culturally effective and linguistically competent services.
