This Resolution requests the Hawaii State Energy Office to establish a working group to address the challenges of installing electric vehicle (EV) charging systems in multi-unit dwellings, such as apartment buildings and condominiums. The group will investigate the obstacles preventing these installations, including high costs, insufficient electrical capacity, and limitations in parking facilities, and will explore how changes to state laws and regulations, or other guidance, could help overcome these issues. The working group will also consider establishing guidelines for technical solutions, managing shared charging systems, and recovering costs, and will include representatives from various state agencies, utility companies, community associations, and the EV industry. The goal is to make it easier and clearer for residents of multi-unit dwellings to install and use EV chargers, supporting Hawaii's commitment to a clean energy economy and the transition away from fossil fuels in transportation.
