Bill Summary

A BILL To amend the Coastal Zone Management Act of 1972 to authorize grants to Indian Tribes to further achievement of Tribal coastal zone objectives, and for other purposes.

AI Summary

This bill amends the Coastal Zone Management Act of 1972 to authorize the Secretary to award competitive grants to Indian Tribes to further the achievement of their Tribal coastal zone objectives. The federal share of the cost of any activity carried out with a grant of $200,000 or more shall not exceed 95 percent, but the Secretary can waive this requirement or reduce the Tribe's share. The grants can be used for objectives such as protecting, restoring, or preserving areas of ecological, cultural, or traditional significance, preparing and implementing coastal management plans, and stabilizing shorelines for public safety or cultural preservation. The bill also allows state grants under the Act to be used to fulfill Tribal coastal zone objectives.
