This Resolution expresses support for naming a United States Navy surface combatant ship after Fireman Second Class Telesforo Trinidad, a recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor, which is the highest military decoration awarded by the United States. The resolution highlights Trinidad's extraordinary heroism in 1915 when he saved crewmates during boiler explosions on the USS San Diego, despite being injured himself. It notes that Trinidad remains the only Asian American and Filipino American in the Navy to have received this honor, and that naming a ship after him would acknowledge the significant contributions of Filipino and Filipino American service members, promote diversity and inclusion, and recognize the long-standing alliance between the United States and the Philippines.
