This Resolution requests the Department of Education to conduct an electrical assessment of all public and conversion charter schools in Hawaii to determine if their electrical systems have enough capacity to support the installation of air conditioning units for heat abatement (reducing excessive classroom heat) and air purifying devices to improve air quality, especially in light of concerns raised by the COVID-19 pandemic. The assessment will identify the specific electrical capacity needed for each classroom to accommodate these upgrades, and the Department is required to submit a report of its findings and recommendations, including any proposed legislation, to the Legislature by a specific date before the 2023 legislative session.
