This bill amends the Code of Laws of South Carolina to allow a defendant convicted of certain violent crimes to seek to limit public access to information related to their arrest, charges, and criminal history record at the time of sentencing. The court may grant this request if it finds that the public's interest in the defendant's criminal history being publicly available is outweighed by the harm to the defendant's privacy. The court must issue written findings of fact based on this consideration and specify when the order sealing the defendant's public record will take effect.
