This bill amends the Insurance Code of Texas to require health benefit plans to cover general anesthesia services in connection with certain pediatric dental services. Specifically, the bill mandates coverage for general anesthesia if the patient is under 13 years old and unable to undergo the dental procedure without anesthesia due to a documented physical, mental, or medical reason. The bill applies to a wide range of health plans, including individual and group insurance policies, health maintenance organizations (HMOs), and self-funded plans. However, it does not require plans to cover the underlying dental care or procedures. The new subchapter created by the bill takes effect for plans delivered, issued, or renewed on or after January 1, 2022.
