This bill amends the Texas Insurance Code to require health benefit plans to provide coverage for the treatment of autism spectrum disorder for enrollees who were diagnosed prior to their 22nd birthday. The bill also allows health benefit plans to not require more than one autism evaluation every 10 years and prohibits them from limiting health care practitioners from performing evaluations requested by the plan's issuer. The changes made by this bill will apply to health benefit plans delivered, issued, or renewed on or after January 1, 2022, with the new law taking effect on September 1, 2021.
