Legislative Counsel's Digest: Existing law requires the Department of Health and Human Services to develop 1 and administer a State Plan for Medicaid which includes, without limitation, a list 2 of specific medical services required to be provided to Medicaid recipients. (NRS 3 422.270-422.27495) Section 1 of this bill requires the Director of the Department 4 to include in the State Plan for Medicaid coverage for cognitive assessment and 5 care planning services for persons who experience signs or symptoms of cognitive 6 impairment. Section 2 of this bill makes a conforming change to indicate that 7 section 1 would be administered in the same manner as other provisions of existing 8 law governing the State Plan for Medicaid. 9 SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Chapter 422 of NRS is hereby amended by adding 1 thereto a new section to read as follows: 2 1. The Director shall include in the State Plan for Medicaid a 3 requirement that the State pay the nonfederal share of 4 expenditures incurred for cognitive assessment and care planning 5 services provided to a person who experiences signs or symptoms 1 of cognitive impairment. 2 2. As used in this section cognitive impairment means a 3 deficiency in: 4 (a) Short-term or long-term memory; 5 (b) Orientation as to person, place and time; or 6 (c) Deductive or abstract reasoning. 7 The term does not include any condition with temporary or 8 reversible effects. 9
