This bill amends the Executive Law to establish a single, centralized state DNA identification index, and requires municipalities to expunge any DNA records stored in local DNA indexes. The bill prohibits counties, cities, towns, villages, or other municipalities from establishing or maintaining their own DNA identification indexes, and mandates the expungement of any DNA records currently stored in municipal indexes within 90 days. The bill also modifies the procedures for expunging DNA records from the state index when convictions are reversed or vacated, or individuals are acquitted or have charges dismissed.
