This bill amends the Education Code to allow student athletes participating in intercollegiate athletic programs at certain public and private universities in Texas to earn compensation from the use of their name, image, or likeness, and to obtain professional representation for contracts or other legal matters related to such compensation. The bill prohibits these universities from adopting policies that prevent student athletes from engaging in these activities. It also requires the universities to provide financial literacy and life skills workshops for student athletes, and prohibits individuals or organizations from using future name, image, and likeness compensation as an inducement to recruit prospective student athletes.
