This Resolution formally requests the Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR), the state agency responsible for managing public lands, to carry out beach nourishment along a specific stretch of the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii, from Laniakea Beach to Velzyland Beach. Beach nourishment is a method of addressing shoreline erosion, a significant problem in Hawaii exacerbated by rising sea levels and climate change, by adding sand to depleted beaches. The resolution highlights that wider beaches can help protect coastal properties and infrastructure from storm damage, tsunamis, and high tides. Furthermore, the DLNR is required to report its progress on this beach nourishment project to the Legislature before the 2023 legislative session begins, and certified copies of this request will be sent to the Governor and the Chairperson of the Board of Land and Natural Resources.
