This Resolution formally requests the Hawaii Council for the Humanities, the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, and the Hawaii State Public Library System to work together to create a Hawaii State Poet Laureate Program. The program's goals include appointing a poet laureate periodically, encouraging the reading and writing of poetry, offering workshops to promote literary and cultural understanding, and bringing together diverse artists and storytellers to share their work. The State Foundation on Culture and the Arts is also asked to report on the progress and plans for this program to the Legislature by early 2023. This initiative aims to celebrate and advance Hawaii's rich, multicultural heritage through literature and poetry, recognizing their power to foster dialogue, pride, and civic engagement.
