This Resolution requests the Department of Health to establish a Therapeutic Psilocybin Working Group to investigate the potential medicinal and therapeutic benefits of psilocybin, a naturally occurring compound found in certain mushrooms that affects brain chemistry and has shown promise in treating conditions like depression and anxiety. The working group will review existing laws, scientific research on psilocybin's safety and effectiveness, and guidelines for its medical use in places where it's approved. Crucially, if the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the U.S. agency responsible for regulating food and drugs, approves psilocybin for medical use, the working group will develop a comprehensive long-term plan to ensure that psilocybin or products containing it are available to adults aged 21 and older in a safe, accessible, and affordable manner. The working group will include various state officials, medical professionals, and academics, and is tasked with submitting preliminary and final reports with recommendations to the Legislature.
