This Resolution urges Hawaii's representatives in the U.S. Congress, known as the Hawaii Congressional Delegation, to take action to reorganize important military assets and property to improve how things are done and make them more successful. Specifically, it calls for the U.S. Coast Guard's Sand Island operations to move to Pearl Harbor, allowing the closure of its housing area at Wailupe, with that land then being transferred to the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands, which manages land for Native Hawaiians. The Resolution also proposes moving the U.S. Navy's hospital ship, the U.S.N.S. Mercy, from San Diego to Pearl Harbor, relocating the U.S. Army Pacific Headquarters from Fort Shafter to Schofield Barracks, and transferring the land of Fort Shafter and Shafter Flats to the State of Hawaii for its own use. These proposed changes are intended to benefit the military, the state, and the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands, recognizing Hawaii's significant strategic role and the importance of a good relationship between the military and the people of Hawaii.
