This Concurrent Resolution requests the Governor to direct all state executive agencies to examine and update their policies and rules to prevent discrimination against individuals seeking rental housing based on their source of income or their participation in housing assistance programs, such as federal Housing Choice Vouchers (often referred to as Section 8). The resolution highlights that existing federal and state fair housing laws do not currently prohibit this type of discrimination, which makes it harder for low-income individuals, including single mothers, to find affordable housing, especially in light of the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. It also notes that prohibiting such discrimination has been shown to increase the likelihood of these individuals finding housing and that many other states and cities have already implemented similar protections. Furthermore, the resolution requires each agency to report back to the Legislature on their progress in reviewing and revising these policies by a specific date before the 2023 legislative session.
