This Resolution officially designates the Waianae Moku Kupuna Council as an advisory resource to the elected representatives in the Hawaii State Legislature who serve the Waianae Moku community. The resolution acknowledges the historical and ongoing importance of "kupuna," which refers to elders or respected ancestors, in Hawaiian culture, and recognizes that the Waianae Moku Kupuna Council is composed of kupuna who are at least sixty years old, long-time residents of West Oahu, and possess deep knowledge of the Waianae Moku community's history and culture. The resolution further requests that these elected officials regularly meet with the Council to receive their input and wisdom on matters significant to the Waianae Moku community, fostering a spirit of "aloha," which means love and compassion.
