This Concurrent Resolution requests the convening of a working group, chaired by the Chairperson of the Hawaiian Homes Commission, to develop recommendations for implementing the Revitalizing Economy and Agriculture Leadership (REAL) initiative. The REAL initiative aims to empower Hawaii's farmers to become self-sustaining, profitable businesses by improving local food production, creating market access, and fostering entrepreneurial growth. The working group will include representatives from various government agencies, educational institutions, non-profit organizations, and industry stakeholders, such as the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), the Hawaii Department of Agriculture, Kamehameha Schools, and agricultural homesteaders. The group is tasked with developing concrete proposals for land leases, establishing "grow hubs" for technical assistance and market support, and accessing resources for soil and water testing, with a report due to the Legislature before the 2022 session.
