This Resolution urges the allocation of more funding and personnel to increase the visible presence of police officers on the Waianae Coast, a historically and culturally rich area of Oahu that is experiencing population growth. It also calls for the creation of a new, separate police district for Waianae, encompassing the area from Nanakuli to Kaena Point, to be distinct from the current District 8 which combines Waianae with Kapolei and Ewa. This separation is deemed necessary due to increasing population, security, and safety demands, especially in light of crime statistics from 2020 which showed District 8 having the highest number of murders and aggravated assaults on Oahu. The resolution also specifically requests increased staffing and resources for the Waianae Coast Community Policing Team, a group already working on crime reduction and community engagement, to better serve the growing area and manage the recently expanded Waianae police station.
