Bill Summary

AN ACT To require the Transportation Security Administration to issue a plan to improve security screening procedures at airports during the COVID-19 national emergency, and for other purposes.

AI Summary

This bill requires the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to issue a plan to enhance security operations at airports during the COVID-19 national emergency in order to reduce the risk of the spread of the coronavirus at passenger screening checkpoints and among the TSA workforce. The plan must identify best practices developed in response to the coronavirus among foreign governments, airports, and air carriers, as well as federal agencies conducting similar security screening operations, and specify operational changes that could be implemented without degrading aviation security. The bill also requires the TSA Administrator to consult with public and private stakeholders, including the TSA workforce, in developing the plan, and to submit the plan to Congress. The bill does not require the plan to be implemented upon the termination of the COVID-19 national emergency, but allows the Administrator to determine whether such implementation is feasible and beneficial to security screening operations.
