AI Summary

This bill would categorize women's sports teams in Rhode Island based on biological sex at birth, rather than gender identity. It requires that teams be designated as male, female, or coed/mixed. The bill provides that female teams cannot be open to biological males, and allows students to establish their sex by presenting a physician's statement. The bill also creates a private cause of action for students who are deprived of athletic opportunities or face retaliation due to violations of the act, and protects educational institutions from adverse action for maintaining separate teams. The bill is intended to address perceived physiological differences between males and females that give men an inherent athletic advantage.
