This bill, known as the "County Law Enforcement Protection Act," prohibits counties from enacting or enforcing any law, ordinance, policy, or rule that limits peace officers or local officials, officers, or employees from communicating or cooperating with appropriate federal officials concerning the immigration status of individuals. The bill prescribes penalties and remedies, including allowing individuals who are residents of the county to bring an action to enforce the act and the Attorney General to investigate and bring an action to enforce the act. If a court determines a county's law, ordinance, policy, or rule violates the act, the court must issue an injunction, order the county to amend or repeal the offending provision, and award damages, costs, and attorney fees to the challenger.
