This bill, called the Rural Health Clinic Protection Act, aims to make technical corrections to the payments received by rural health clinics under the Medicare program. Specifically, it amends the Social Security Act to establish the per-visit payment amount for rural health clinics based on their 2020 payment amount, adjusted for the Medicare Economic Index (MEI) increase. It also defines the rural health clinics eligible for this payment methodology as those that were in a hospital with less than 50 beds as of December 31, 2020, and were either enrolled in Medicare or had submitted an enrollment application by that date. The bill's changes would take effect retroactively as if included in the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021.
