This bill aims to restore educator longevity payments in North Carolina. Specifically, it repeals a previous provision that had reduced these payments, and instead reinstates longevity pay rates ranging from 1.5% to 4.5% of base salary based on years of service, to be paid in a lump sum annually. The bill also provides that principal and assistant principal longevity payments will be the same as for other state employees. To fund these restored longevity payments, the bill appropriates $140.3 million in recurring funds to the Department of Public Instruction for the 2021-2022 fiscal year. The bill takes effect on July 1, 2021.
