This bill prohibits boroughs and cities in Alaska from levying or collecting sales or use taxes on the sale or exchange of specie, which is defined as coins or bullion that have gold or silver content. The bill also directs the House Finance Committee to study the possibility of establishing an alternative form of legal tender for the payment of debts, public charges, taxes, and other money owed to the state. If the committee determines that an alternative form of tender is practical and beneficial, it shall prepare legislation to establish such a form of legal tender.
