Bill Summary

Relative to local sales tax upon sale or transfer of medical marijuana or medical marijuana products. Cannabis Policy.

AI Summary

This bill allows cities and towns in Massachusetts to impose a local sales tax of up to 6.25% on the sale or transfer of medical marijuana or medical marijuana products by medical marijuana treatment centers or marijuana retailers operating within the city or town. The medical marijuana treatment center or marijuana retailer must pay the local sales tax to the state commissioner at the same time and in the same manner as the state sales tax. The commissioner will then distribute the collected funds to the cities and towns that have accepted this provision, in proportion to the amount collected in each city or town. Cities and towns have one year to dispute the commissioner's calculation of their distribution.
